Carnes-SC will face redistricting after a population increase of 15% after recent 2010 Census
As we know every ten years we go through reapportionment. This process takes place after a census is completed. After doing the census in 2010, it has been determined that our growth in South Carolina has increased by 15.3 % to 4.6 million residents.
What does that mean for South Carolina? Well for starts it will mean South Carolina will gain one Congressional seat in 2012 bringing the total to seven. This also means South Carolina will see district lines re -drawn to handle this growth and balance out the districts so it is more fair and balanced when it comes to representation.
This redistricting will affect House and Senate seats as well, so it may be a very different look in 2012. This will make things look a lot different for many of us in 2012.
Redistricting will take place in the general assembly during this years session and then this will go to The Justice department for a final review to make sure that it in compliance with the Voting rights act of 1965
